On the other side of the River Arno you’ll find the
legendary Piazza Michelangelo – a wonderful picnic spot
with evocative views of the city as well as the surrounding
valley. A typical walking tour in toward the centre from here
would ideally bring you to Ponte Vecchio – Europe’s
oldest stone bridge and Florence’s most sublime landmark.
Nearby is the aforementioned Uffizi and in the historical
centre you’ll find such national treasures as the Palazzo
Vecchio and Brunelleschi’s unmistakable Duomo which
dominates the skyline.
Directions
The simplest way to arrive at the Columbus Hotel Florence
from the airport (Amerigo Vespucci) is to take a taxi directly
to the hotel for about €20. Alternatively you can take
one of the many public transfer links into Florence Santa
Maria Novella Railway station and take a taxi from here for
about €15.
